Product Details
Just add a few cups of water to a bucket, stir in the contents of this carton, and let stand for 10 minutes. Then find a shady area and spread the gel-like paste over a pre-moistured surface - bare soil, stone, wood, or weathered concrete. Even vertical surfaces! Each small moss fragment will grow into a new moss plant, which then grows together over time to form a dense green blanket. This product has an indefinite shelf life, and will cover up to 15 square feet of surface. All you need is shade, moisture, and patience! Contains 16 oz. of hypnum (sheet moss) fragments.
Made in the USA.
About the Gel Formation
The gel formation can be pretty subtle, appearing as more of a light binding paste that helps the moss fragments stick together as opposed to a thick gel.
Instructions: Mixing the Moss
Water Ratio: Use just enough water to dampen the moss without overdoing it. A 10-minute soak should do the trick. The moss should feel slightly sticky rather than turning into a thick gel.
Stir Well: Give it a good stir after soaking to get the moisture evenly distributed.
Getting the Moss to Grow
Substrate & Environment: Moss thrives in a well-drained, slightly acidic mix like sandy soil and peat moss. The key is keeping it consistently moist but not soggy.
Be Patient: Moss is a slow grower. It might show some growth within 5 weeks, but real progress can take up to 6 months. The early growth is tiny, look closely for the individual fragments.
Keep it Moist: Regular misting is essential, especially in the beginning stages.
Setting Expectations
Natural Growth Speed: Moss growth isn’t quick. It can take 1-3 years to get a lush, full carpet. It’s important to be patient to avoid any disappointment.
Spotting Growth: The early signs of growth are small. Look closely for tiny green shoots to see the fragments of growth.
