Great Container Cover Crop
I used crimson clover as a cover crop in my vegetable containers this summer.
In late August, I cut down the clover and immediately transplanted my greens seedlings into the containers (instead of waiting 10 days for the cloverβs roots to deteriorate). I added extra compost and organic fertilizer into each hole before planting as I usually do. The plants this year were noticeably bigger, healthier and more vigorous. (And we had a vicious heatwave in early September.)
The flowers are gorgeous, the plants and pollinating insects love it, and it makes top quality compost. A keeper!
